Holy Unction Served for Fr. Victor

January 31, 2006

Prompted by certain unidirectional developments in Father Victor Sokolov's health, His Grace Bishop BENJAMIN of Berkeley served the sacrament of Holy Unction for Father Victor at his residence in Healdsburg, California on the feast day of the Holy Unmercenaries Cyrus and John (January 31).

His Grace, auxiliary bishop in the Diocese of the West, was accompanied by five area clergymen: Archpriest Kyrill Hartman, Archpriest Ian MacKinnon, Archpriest Michael Margitich, Archpriest Stephen Meholick, and Priest Lawrence Margitich. The liturgical responses were sung by the cathedral choir director, Robert Parent, Matushka Barbara, and Anna and Masha Sokolov.

At the conclusion of the sacrament of Unction, the recipient asks forgiveness from the presbyters. Father Victor asked the participating clergymen to accept his heartfelt plea for forgiveness and also to convey his humble request to their families and faithful.

Archpriest Victor Sokolov was appointed Dean of San Francisco's Holy Trinity Cathedral on September 1, 1991, by His Grace Bishop TIKHON of San Francisco. He is the longest serving priest in the cathedral's history. He has been fighting lung cancer for more than a year. He celebrates his 59th birthday on February 21.

Father Victor would like his friends to know that he is rarely able to respond to e-mail messages but that he enjoys receiving messages and is thankful for everyone's continued prayers.
