The edict of His Imperial Highness the Autocrat of All Russia, from the First dispatch office of the Saint Petersburg Spiritual Consistory

to the Spiritual Directorate in San Francisco

By edict of His Imperial Highness, the Saint Petersburg Spiritual Consistory heard the Decree of the Most Holy Synod of the 31 of this past May, No. 1694, by which the diocesan authorities were informed of the decisions made on the basis of the recommendation of the Special Committee on the affairs of our Orthodox Bishop’s Cathedral in America, in accordance with which in was decreed:

1) Following the example of other churches abroad, to subordinate our churches and clergy located in America to the jurisdiction of the Saint Petersburg diocesan authorities for the entire period of the widowhood of said cathedral.

2) To charge subdeacons assigned to the cathedral with teaching at the school attached to the cathedral such subjects as are accessible to them according to their knowledge.

It was decreed: to notify the Spiritual Directorate in San Francisco of the subordination of the churches and clergy located in America to the jurisdiction of the Saint Petersburg diocesan authorities, and of charging subdeacons assigned to the cathedral with teaching at the school attached to the cathedral. Thus, from now on they should address their petitions to the Saint Petersburg diocesan authorities.
