REACHES PLACE NEXT TO THE BISHOPRIC.
Rev. Father Dabovich Raised to High Position in Orthodox Church.
Archbishop Tikhon of the Russian Eastern Orthodox church, has just conferred the Mitre and Pectoral Cross and Staff on the Rev. Father Sebastian Dabovich, with powers of administration over the Servian and Slavonic branches of the church in North America.
The archimandrite to which Father Dabovich has been elevated is but one step from the bishopric, and although all archimandrites are not given the Mitre, this exceptional honor has been bestowed upon Father Sebastian as a special reward.
Father Sebastian Dabovich was born in San Francisco in 1863. He took theological courses in St. Petersburg, Kieff and Belgrade, and on the completion of his studies returned to the United States and was ordained in the Russian cathedral in this city.
Last year, prior to a third trip to Russia and Servia, Father Dabovich, who had received the different grades of the clergy, was created abbot. He is the author of many theological works.
Father Dabovich will now devote himself to organizing and systematizing the work of the Servian and Slavonic branches of the church in the East, and has already established his headquarters in Chicago.
