Sokolov to head
Orthodox cathedral
San Francisco The Rev. Victor Sokolov, 44, has been appointed acting head of Holy
Trinity Cathedral, home to the oldest Eastern Orthodox parish in the country.
Sokolov,
the one-time dissident Soviet author and civil rights activist, left his native
country in the late 1970s. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1984 and since
then has held various posts in New York, Vermont and Canada. He has also worked
as a writer, editor, lecturer and translator.
The
parish was established by immigrants from Russia in 1868 and for many years
served all Orthodox Christians in California.
