RUSSIAN CHAPLAIN DIES.
Officer of the Lena Passes Away In San Francisco Yesterday.
Word was received by Judge Browne last night of the death in San Francisco yesterday afternoon of Rev. Basil Ossipoff, Chaplain of the Russian cruiser Lena. The deceased came with the Lena to Mare Island a year ago, but on account of his age did not visit this city often. He was a member of a religious order of the Greek Catholic Church and was a native of Alaska, where he was born nearly seventy-two years ago. For twenty-five years he was in a monastery in that territory, and when the call of the church came for Chaplains to go to the front he was one of the first to respond and entered the service at Vladivostok. The cause of his death was consumption. The departure of the Lena will be delayed until Tuesday, as the funeral will be held in San Francisco Monday.
