Scenes of Grief as Father's Body Is Taken to Cathedral

CRONSTADT, Jan. 3.– The body of Father John of Cronstadt was transferred today to St. Andrew's cathedral through streets lined with mourners.

At the service and during the period when the body lay in state there were scenes of hysterical grief among the thousands of the dead priest's followers, many of whom, unable to afford sleighs, had walked five miles over a field of ice and waited for 10 hours in the cold.

The general expectation is that Father John will be canonized.
