Wife Back in Russia, Husband Asks Divorce

Michael Derancoff, sculptor, who was granted a divorce in Judge Graham’s court yesterday, testified that his wife, Sophia Derancoff, who is a graduate physician from a Petrograd University, has deserted him and returned to Russia because she found the English language too difficult to master.

Derancoff said he had been exiled to Siberia in 1905 for having made a remark derogatory to the Czar. He escaped a year later and went to England. Judge Graham suggested that he return to Russia and fight for his country. Derancoff had just read the latest news from Russia and was in doubt who or what he would be fighting for if he attempted to fight for "his country."
